safety in the pattern
This body of work is a meditation on finding safety in the pattern, and comfort in the consistency of simple shapes and colors. How textured repitition simultaneously soothes and stimulates the mind.
In the age of AI, I feel this inistance on leaving evidence of the artist’s hand by revealing slivers of untoched canvas, the gridlines from the planning process, and the choreographed brushstrokes. I wanted to create something unmistakably human. Sterile precision has no place here.
The scale of these pieces are relatively small. There’s an intimacy that comes with small scaler works. Grand paintings will always have their allure. But the concept of safety is very personal. I want to be able to hand this painting to you and simply put it on the wall.
Inspired by patterns and color combinations found in handpainted tiles for bathrooms and kitchens - some of the most intimate spaces in homes.
